Happy August, y'all. This week, I'm focusing on reminding myself to be content with what I have and with my current season in life. Can I get real for a minute? All summer, friends and family members keep asking how the house hunt is going. It's painful to have to say... "it's still going" when in truth we have found a one-of-a-kind home but it is out of our price range. Several friends are mamas-to-be, and I have to remind myself that it's not my time yet. Teachers head back to school today, and there's a part of me that feels like I should be further along, more accomplished in my career. More, more, more. I often forget that comparison is the thief of joy, until I realize that I've spent fifteen minutes or half an hour scrolling through Instagram or Facebook and feel worse instead of better. Two posts that really resonated with me this week were "The Traps" at The Inspired Room and "Of Elder-flowers and Jealousy" at Design for Mankind.

wedding inspiration: floral arches
An arch or arbor is becoming a staple of many Christian, interfaith, and non-denominational outdoor weddings. A floral arch creates a welcoming focal point for guests and takes the symbolic place of an indoor altar. They also fill a role similar to that of the chuppah or huppah in Jewish wedding ceremonies. According to the New York Times, "In Judaism, a traditional huppah typically consists of a prayer shawl or other cloth attached to four poles, which is held aloft over the couple by family members, and is intended to signify the newlyweds’ new home. They are purposely open-sided to welcome the guests." In Hindu weddings, a canopy called a mandap represents the universe and the foundation provided by the couple's parents. Whether soft and romantic or bright and bold, floral arbors are full of beautiful symbolism and can be designed to match any wedding theme.

inspiration for a modern alice in wonderland wedding
As I mentioned yesterday, last weekend I attended my college roommate's bridal shower. She has always loved fairytales and folklore (which led to her taking some really weird electives in school!), and her bridesmaids threw her an adorable Alice in Wonderland bridal shower, complete with "which way?" signs, a "looking glass" to walk through (mylar fringe), a flamingo umbrella, "drink me" teacups and "eat me" treats. It got my inner event planner thinking - would it be possible to have a Wonderland themed wedding without the Disney trippiness or the Tim Burton creep factor? Then I saw this Minted invitation (stripes and hand-drawn florals for the win!) and realized that I had my inspiration - for a modern, whimsical, Alice inspired celebration of which Lewis Carroll himself would approve!

inspiration for a sweet strawberry spring wedding
A few months ago, a fellow blogger reached out to me with a wedding conundrum - my favorite! One of her friends was planning a May wedding with a rustic theme. The planning quandry: both the bride and groom really like red, but were worried that red is too much of a fall color. I think that red can definitely work for spring - especially with a rustic setting. The first things that came to mind when I thought of spring, red, and rustic were strawberries, geraniums and Coca-Cola in glass bottles. Here's some inspiration for how I think a red spring wedding could come together:

inspiration for a rustic, lemon yellow wedding on the farm
I have a strange lemon wedding inspiration addiction, and I have to thank you, readers, for humoring me every spring. Could it be because yellow and purple are opposite one another on the color wheel, therefore a lemon wedding is the complete opposite of the wedding I actually had? Let's not try to get to psychological about it, though. Winter is over. Yellow is happy. Here we go.

I love the vintage-inspired typography on this invitation! I think it's a great way to set the tone for a laid-back, happy wedding full of personal touches. It reminds me of county fairs, concert posters, and antique stores.
Fact: having been a bridesmaid in a navy blue dress and cowgirl boots, I will NEVER get tired of seeing bridesmaids in navy blue dresses and cowgirl boots.
I love everything about this groomsman's look: the striped tie, the different textures in the suit, and the wildflower boutonniere. The cornflowers are the perfect touch of blue.

Straw hats as decor and a lemon ring shot? I want to go to there.
This lemonade-themed ombre ruffle cake is an absolute dream.
