summer/fall color: starfish and mushroom - the now neutrals

Summer's most popular neutral was starfish, a light khaki tan that goes with everything, but looks especially awesome paired with gold and white.  For fall, I'm noticing a lot of mushroom, somewhere between gray and brown, which looks surprisingly great with black.

3. Forever 21 Metallic Scarf  4. Sally Hansen nail polish in Dune from Drugstore.com
5. OPI nail polish in Samoan Sand from Amazon
6. House of Harlow 1960 leather and gold sunburst necklace from The Trend Boutique
7. Old Navy ballet-style wedges  8. GAP khaki flared pants
9. GAP slim cropped pants  10. J. Crew patent leather skinny belt
11. Butter London nail polish in Hen Party  12. Zoya nail polish in Cho

My favorite take on starfish is a flowy skirt paired with a leather belt and simple white tee.

I also adore this manicure from All Lacquered Up.
The current name of this Butter London polish is "All Hail the Queen."  It's marketed as a winter version of "Yummy Mummy," but I think it's a great transitional color as summer fades to fall.

This shot from Vogue Australia via Fashion Gone Rogue shows an elegant mushroom and black pairing.  Head to toe neutrals is one of my favorite styles for fall.

This manicure from Mimi & Meg is perfect for fall - just enough glitter to get away with!

  1. SO GORGEOUS! I LOVE neutrals, especially mushroom: so great for a transition to fall! Especially love the Vogue outfit and the last manicure: love a little glitter to spice up a neutral!

    1. Confession time: I am such a lover of bright colors and lovely pastels that I thought the mushroom colors were awful when I first started seeing them in stores. Now that I've tried on a few items and realized how versatile mushroom-colored bags, belts, scarves and shoes are (you can wear them with ANYTHING!) the mushroom has won me over.
