“Every spark returns to darkness. Every sound returns to
silence. Every flower returns to sleep with the earth.
The journey of the sun and moon is predictable. But

  • I'm obsessed with covers that put a song into a completely different genre, so I fell in love with Branches' version of "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" when I heard it on Spotify. What could be better to kick off February?

“Some things you know all your life. They are
so simple and true they must be said without
elegance, meter and rhyme...they must be naked
and alone, they must stand for themselves.”

  • Odessa's song "I Will Be There" is probably familiar to you either from the Subaru commercial it's featured in or from The Fault in Our Stars' soundtrack.  I am loving the light, ethereal song - this is the kind of song I just want to wrap around me.  I'm linking up with Musical Mondays at My So-Called Chaos - and you should, too!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP at HIGH-HEELED LOVE

inspiration for an elegant black, white and pink wedding

This winter's record cold temperatures and days of being perpetually stuck inside have me dreaming of an elegant spring wedding.  This year, I think spring's first blooms are calling for a black-tie event.

Isn't this Vera Wang gown gorgeous?  I love how ethereal the layers of tulle look.  The black ribbon sash is an unexpected dash of chic, and it would be easy to achieve a similar look.  I think that a velvet sash would look especially luxe.

The polka dots on the groomsmen's ties are such a fun touch of whimsy.

WATCH.

  • I was more excited about Janelle Monae as the musical guest than Edward Norton hosting SNL this past Saturday, but Norton was perfect as Owen Wilson in this parody of Wes Anderson's quirky films - with a Halloween edge.  I'd probably go see it in the theater.

sunday simplicity: taste and tenderness

“Her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn--that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness--that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.”

― Jane Austen, Persuasion
