Marsala for Valentine's Day
Pantone's 2015 color of the year, Marsala, is perfect for Valentine's Day - it can be classy and sophisticated, or have a laid-back cool-girl vibe. I like to think that on a perfect day I'm a little bit of both, so here are my Valentine's picks for the lady who's the perfect mix of classic and unexpected - whether you're treating a special someone, treating your best friend, or (obviously the best choice) treating yo self!

style challenge: hey there, delilah...
Last week, Audrey's Putting Me Together Style Challenge was to wear a bright color. Even though I tend to wear more neutrals in winter, I love color, so the challenge for me was just picking which one to wear!
I consider coral one of my "power colors:" it flatters my complexion, I often receive compliments when I wear coral pieces, and I feel happy when I look at it. When I follow my usual "formula," for work outfits, I like to pair a colorful cardigan and plain pants with a dressier top, but I was inspired by this outfit seen on Pinterest to try a plain white tee (hence the title of this post... excuse my four year old reference) and teal necklace instead. I'd also usually wear black shoes with these pants, so I swapped those out for some springier Sam & Libby flats with a cute bow. Wearing a bright color on a rainy winter day really did lift my mood - I felt great yesterday!

Style Inspiration: Summer Chic Palette
Today I decided to put a different spin on a Tuesday style post. I fell in love with the color palette in this Boden pencil skirt - hydrangea blue, cherry red, and freesia yellow. These primary colors sing summer! For these three looks, I chose classic preppy summer staples. oscars style: my favorite hair, makeup, and accessories
The Oscars are full of inspiration for hair, makeup, and accessories as well as fashion. Here are my favorite ideas and trends from this year's red carpet.

Edgy Accessories
Lupita Nyong'o, Sandra Bullock, and Maria Menounos each spotted eye-catching, edgy cluster earrings that cuff the earlobe. Clearly these earrings look great with any hairstyle, from Lupita's feminine Fred Leighton headband, to Sandra's highlighted vintage waves, to Maria's braided boho chignon. I think all of these fresh-faced ladies are winners in the makeup category as well. Lupita looked dewy and glowing with gray eyeshadow, bright coral lipstick, and a Deborah Lipmann La Vie En Rose manicure to complement her "Nairobi blue" gown. Sandra's navy waterline eyeliner looked modern but not too over-the-top paired with pale pink blush and lipstick (the way to go with colored liner). Maria's bold eyeliner and nude lip rounded out her high-fashion look.

Perfect Color
I instantly fell in love with Kristen Bell's auburn highlighted look - especially since we're used to seeing her sport platinum blonde locks. I thought the color really warmed up her complexion and made her elegant updo featuring a low bun and volume at the crown look even more dramatic. She kept her makeup simple, with rose lipstick and blush to complement her dress' frosty color.
Vintage Waves
Vintage waves and a side part are so flattering on Cate Blanchett. She kept her makeup simple, with black curled eyelashes, peach blush, and a nude lip, so that her rhinestone-accented dress and statement earrings were the focus.
Simple, Dramatic Makeup
It was all about the eyeliner for Olivia Wilde, Charlize Theron, and Anna Kendrick. Olivia's look included a dramatic, mod-inspired winged cat-eye with a touch of white shimmer to match her white drop earrings and the details on her dress, paired with nude lipstick and matte balm. The Revlon spokeswoman's messy chignon hairstyle looked effortless and gorgeous. Charlize Theron and Anna Kendrick both went with sleek, polished hairstyles. Charlize's makeup included bold black liner, perfectly sculpted brows, and a nude lip. Anna Kendrick added an extra pop of color with matte coral lipstick, and I adore her art deco influenced tassel earrings.
Smoky Eyes
Angelina Jolie and Penelop Cruz both brought perfect, glossy chesnut brunette haircolor and bronze smoky eyes to the red carpet to complement the romantic muted tones of their gowns. Angelina wore a pale pink glossy lipstick, white Penelope wore a pearlescent pink shade.
Drama and Romance
Mom-to-be Kerry Washington looked so pretty with her half-up, curly hairstyle, soft blush, and dramatic plum lipstick. She was one of the only actresses to sport a dark lip and it looked surprisingly perfect with her lavender gown and matching vampy manicure.

style: my favorite oscar fashion trends
I've really enjoyed taking some time this awards season to compile my favorite looks from the Grammy Awards and the Golden Globes (along with my favorite hair and makeup). Of course, the Oscars are known as Hollywood's biggest night, and the stars did not disappoint me with their fashion choices. I noticed a few new takes on styles that we've seen earlier in the season, as well as several new red carpet trends as we transition from winter to spring.
Nude and Appliqués
One of the most gorgeous - and popular - trends on Oscar night was flowing nude dresses with appliques. Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett wore a stunning Armani Privé cap-sleeve gown featuring Swarovski crystals and sequins over illusion fabric, paired with Chopard statement earrings. I thought Idina Menzel looked flawless in the Reem Acra dress she wore to perform Best Original Song winner "Let It Go" from Frozen, which featured floral lace appliqués - despite John Travolta's introduction of her as "Adele Dazeeb."
Jenna Dewan Tatum looked amazing in a nude Reem Acra gown featuring illusion cap sleeves, rhinestones and ruffles paired with a loose updo and soft makeup. E! hostess Giulina Rancic was on-trend as well, with a taupe take on the trend. I love her dress' detailed lace and crystal bodice and flowy skirt.
Old Hollywood Glamour
Two of my favorite looks of the night were straight out of Jessica Rabbit's closet. Best Actress nominee Sandra Bullock wore a navy Alexander McQueen gown with a sweetheart neckline and a matching navy manicure. Her dress was my favorite of the night - classic, elegant, and perfect for her athletic shape. Kate Hudson looked like a Bond girl in a metallic Versace gown with a dramatic deep v-neck and ruching. Her ensemble included a cape on the red carpet, but I preferred the gown on its own when she took the stage to present. Both actresses paired their glamorous dresses with perfect, vintage-inspired wave hairstyles.
Lady in Red
Red has been popular all season, and Best Supporting Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence's structured strapless Dior gown was very similar in color to the Ralph Lauren dress Lupita Nyong'o wore to the Golden Globes. Jennifer's dress featured peplum detailing around the waist and a slight mermaid hem. She accessorized with a diamond Neil Lane necklace worn backward, 1920's-style.
Dramatic Black Florals
Oscar fashion continued a spring trend we've seen at other awards ceremonies this season: black florals. John Legend's leading lady, supermodel Chrissy Teigen wore a Monique Lhuillier dress featuring a dramatic train, and pockets. I absolutely love it! Her dress' raised front hemline (another red carpet trend this season) showed off her strappy Jimmy Choo shoes. Amy Poehler wore a black floral halter neck dress by Peter Som to the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday night. I think Amy's dress is a great example of how this trend can work in real life - in a lightweight fabric, this would be the perfect summer backyard party dress.
Another favorite of the night for me was Kristen Bell, who told red carpet reporters that the icy color palette of her dress and accessories was a nod to Frozen. The new mom's strapless Roberto Cavalli dress featured a lace bodice with boning in the front, corset lacing in the back, and a beautifully textured skirt with a train. Her Piaget necklace and earrings were the perfect compliment to her Frozen-themed look, and she joked that there was a burrito in her silver Salvatore Ferragamo clutch. Basically, I love her and Dax Shepard and I want to be their friend.
Two of my favorite onstage looks featured bold color and more fun ruffles: makeup artist Robin Mathews wore a deep maroon gown featuring ruffled detailing on the full skirt when she accepted the award for her work on Dallas Buyer's Club, and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Karen O wore a fun red dress with ruffled flowers on the straps when she performed Best Original Song nominee "The Moon Song" from Her with Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig.
Bold Color and Perfect Shapes
Classic evening wear with dramatic draping is perfect for the red carpet. Access Hollywood's Louise Roe wore a bohemian Pronovias gown in emerald green that featured one lace sleeve, and her loose hairstyle and gold Kara Ross clutch were the perfect finishing touches. Best Actor nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor's longtime girlfriend, actress Sari Mercer wore an elegant deep navy gown with a draped neckline. "Let It Go" singer Idina Menzel's deep green red carpet gown was by Vera Wang and her bold Chimento necklace and bracelet went perfectly with the dress' sweetheart neckline.
Best Dressed Men
Kevin Spacey's navy Burberry tuxedo with black lapels and bow tie was one of my favorite looks of the night, and Jason Sudeikis also sported navy in a Prada tux with a black bow tie as he escorted wife Olivia Wilde on the red carpet. I like these looks because they are traditional, but more interesting than the cookie-cutter black tuxedo.
Best Actor winner Matthew McConaughey's ivory Dolce and Gabbana tuxedo jacket, black vest and bow tie were Old Hollywood at its best. I also loved his acceptance speech - it might have been rambling, but it was clear that it came straight from his heart.
