Fall 2015: Oak Buff

Somewhere between camel and mustard lives a fall color that is a throwback to the 1970's: Pantone calls it Oak Buff, and it's definitely on-trend this season, whether your style is rustic, modern, or glam. style challenge: the coziest dress

The lovely Audrey over at Putting Me Together has come up with an awesome idea for a style challenge to help us all get back to basics and work our closets.  One of my goals for this year is to continue streamlining my wardrobe by getting rid of worn-out and ill-fitting pieces and investing in classic pieces.  This week's challenge is a basic one: wear a dress!

It sounds simple, but would I have worn a dress this week (the temperature in Virginia is in the thirties and below this week) without the challenge?  Probably not - can you tell how cold and dark it is when I get home from work from this picture?  Here's the Old Navy fleece dress I featured in this month's favorite things.  It really is extremely comfortable!  I paired it with a skinny belt, tights, my mustard cardigan, and my Target Kasia riding boots. My locket was a gift from my sister-in-law.  This outfit makes me feel really trendy and ladylike while also keeping me super cozy!

Carnival Style: Sochi Inspired

How would y'all feel if the rest of this week was all fashion all the time here on Beyond the Aisle?  I started playing around with Polyvore during my little snowcation while watching the Olympics and I couldn't stop.  Here's the first of my Sochi Inspired style boards, sparked by one of my favorite parts of the opening ceremonies: the inflatable-dome tribute to St. Basil's cathedral and Russian street festivals.  Adding carnival colors and whimsical patterns to my wardrobe puts me in a festive mood and makes me feel more confident that spring is on the way!

What I'm Loving Fridays at Simply Lulu Style

Fall 2013: Dijon and Seafoam

As soon as I saw this Tracy Reese runway photo from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City I became obsessed with the color pairing.  The spring outfit pairs a light teal sweater embellished with black and white flowers with a dijon-yellow top and black shorts.  Tracy Reese always uses yellow in really creative ways in her collection, and I got to thinking about how to pair these colors in a way more appropriate for fall.  This fall's popular dijon mustard yellow looks great with pops of seafoam teal, and together they pair well with cognac brown, gray, or black!  It's an unusual combination, but I think it works!
