inspiration for a blush and pewter winter wedding.

By now, we've had some time to adjust to Pantone's unprecedented decision to name two colors of the year for 2016, and I'm currently obsessed with rose quartz. Just in time for Valentine's Day, I'm envisioning soft blush pink wedding details paired with lace and pewter for a perfectly romantic winter wedding.

Classic letterpress stationery will never go out of style. I love the idea of a bride using a family heirloom cameo or lace from her mother's wedding dress as her "something old."

For "something new," BHLDN's collection of vintage-inspired chandelier
earrings is full of stunning pieces to complete a bride's look.

Lovely floral robes would make the perfect bridesmaids' gift, and if your girls are
up for it, a centerpiece making party can help ease the pre-wedding jitters.

The silvery leaves of dusty miller add a perfect wintery touch to a
blush and ivory garden rose bouquet.

Which of these Pantone-inspired details is your favorite?
Let me know in the comments!

clicks of note: just to make you smile

get your week off to a colorful start...
LISTEN.
  • After I heard Elle King's "Ex's and Oh's" on my local indie station and Micah featured it for Musical Mondays, I wanted to check out more of her music. While most of her songs tend toward funky and sassy, "Make You Smile (Love Stuff)" is a sweet love song.

SWOON.

SMILE.

April Favorites

April Favorites

Here's what I'm loving this month...

1. 80's Movies - I go through movie phases where all I want to watch is one genre - action, spaceships, whatever. Right now it's 80's movies, specifically the John Hughes canon and Dirty Dancing. Seriously want to have an 80's dance party for my 30th birthday.

2. Yankee Candle Lemon Lavender - It's purple and it smells like spring; what more could you need.

3. The Outlander series - I haven't been this obsessed with a series for a long time, maybe even since Harry Potter. Mr. Q makes fun of my "medieval porn" (I correct him - if anything it's Georgian porn), but I'm completely smitten with Claire and Jamie's love story and their crazy adventures in 1700s Scotland, France, and the high seas. So far I like Voyager better than Dragonfly in Amber.

4. New sneakers - To prepare for this semester's field trip to Washington, D.C. and my membership in a walking club, I went to the fancy running shoe store in town and got my feet measured and such. As soon as the salesman pulled these babies, the Brooks Ravenna 5, out of the box, I was hoping they'd be a perfect fit. SO PURPLE! And also, so comfortable. I made it through the day on the National Mall without a single blister.

5. Paint Nite - My Christmas gift for Breeze this past year was a gift certificate for a night of "drinking creatively," and we finally cashed it in. So. Much. Fun. The instructors make the actual painting part a no-brainer, and the activities we did while waiting for the paint to dry between steps were great "no one knows us here" fun.

Style: End Of Summer?

Last week was my students' first week of school - definitely a sign that summer is coming to a close here in the U.S.  I also kept seeing references to the approach of fall on blogs and in magazines, not to mention pumpkin-shaped planters full of chrysanthemums and bags of candy corn on display at the grocery store and bottles of Oktoberfest in the cooler at a weekend cookout.  It was all getting me a little verklempt - how can fall be coming when I haven't done everything on my summer bucket list? While it may feel like trick-or-treaters are coming, like, tomorrow, the first official day of fall isn't until September 23.  We still have more than a month of summer!  The best way to extend that relaxed, carefree summer feeling?  Pretty, light neutrals and metallics that will get you through Labor Day and into September.

Keep Calm & Summer On
1. Old Navy sequin tank  2. J. Crew ceramic jewelry tray  3. Toni and Guy metallic bobby pins from Target 4. LOFT gold pave link necklace
5. GAP rugby stripe dress  6. Essie "Urban Jungle" nail polish from Target  7. Old Navy pointed ballet flats  8. American Eagle shorts (Similar) 9. Old Navy flip-flops

inspiration for a dreamy mint and baby's breath spring wedding

Spring is almost here, my darlings... even if Mother Nature is clinging to the ice and cold.  I'm dreaming of a spring wedding in pastel hues - mint, pink, and teal, with plenty of baby's breath to make things even sweeter.  Calligraphy, antiques, bunting...

How sweet is the baby's breath in this flower girl's crown and the bridesmaid's bouquet.  Baby's breath is a cost-effective wedding flower that is easy to find at the grocery store or buy wholesale and arrange yourself - and the more you have, the more amazing and magical it looks.

I think a groom in a pastel bow tie says spring, don't you?
And how perfect is that single rose?

The peonies in these bridesmaids' bouquets give them major
wow factor against their floaty mint dresses.

Another DIY to love: these doily-trimmed mint paper cones used to trim the aisles.

A spring bride, an outdoor wedding, and the perfect
strappy sandals in just the right shade of mint...

Antique drawers full of baby's breath are the perfect escort card
holder for a spring wedding straight out of a dream.

Pastel-hued desserts are the perfect finishing touch
for this classic spring color palette.

wedding trend: full skirts

The ballgown never really goes out of style in the world of wedding fashion, but it's definitely having a moment right now.  Full skirts, tulle, and ruffles give a bride a feminine, classic look that's a little bit ballerina and a little bit fairy tale princess.

Nothing is as classic and as on-trend as a bride in a sweetheart-neckline ballgown and a groom in a fitted black tuxedo.

Sunday Simplicity #63: inspiration for an April Fool's poppy wedding

Your soundtrack...

In college, I fell in love with Rufus Wainwright's music.  I volunteered for the organization that brought musicians and bands to grounds for concerts, and Rufus' show in Old Cabell Hall is one I'll always remember because he was so funny and friendly.  In honor of today's crazy holidy, here's one of my favorite Rufus songs, "April Fools."  The video features Rufus and lots of classic opera divas, and the humor is just the right amount of twisted.  Can you identify the heroines, and you spot the celebrity cameos?

Pantone Winter 2012: Orchid Hush and Quarry Wedding Inspiration

Searching for orchid hush and quarry wedding and event inspiration led me to some great images that lend themselves to a vision of a country wedding, complete with bridesmaids in soft, flowy dresses in a muted palette.  I fell in love with paper, florals and fabrics in gray-washed colors with a watercolor feel.  After putting together an equestrian-inspired home decor post, I couldn't resist the idea of adding some equestrian touches to the event inspiration post as well!

Tomorrow's the first day of Spring, so this post officially concludes my series on the Fall/Winter Pantone colors.  But it's not the end of the color posts - I have been rounding up the Spring colors on Pinterest and can't wait to share some new inspiration with y'all!
