inspiration for an apple orchard wedding

Two of my favorite ways to celebrate fall are to go apple picking and to create as many apple-based recipes as possible.  If I could have had a fall wedding, I think that an apple orchard would be a perfect, rustic location for a wedding inspired by apples and shabby-vintage style.

The perfect shabby-vintage invite:  kraft paper and a vintage lace doily to set the tone for a wedding with a homespun feel.

Isn't this apple bouquet amazing?  Lady apples are the perfect size for a wedding bouquet; add some filler and you've got a work of art that will get tons of compliments!

summer/fall color: kelly green

Since it's essay-writing season in my life, I'll start this post with a thesis statement: kelly green makes people feel cheerful, is in style regardless of season, and looks good on every woman.  I won't spend three paragraphs convincing you my thesis is true; instead, I hope the inspiration pictures I've gathered will persuade you that a few basics in kelly green - a cardigan, a pencil skirt or cropped pants, and a tee - will make your closet a happier place.

My4Boys on Polyvore shows how the kelly green version J. Crew's Jackie Cardigan can transition from summer to fall.  It's like this color has multiple personalities - fun and preppy with seersucker and flip-flops, completely sophisticated for the office with a tan skirt and animal print shell.

Navy blue is kelly green's best friend.  You cannot go wrong with this combination.  The easiest kelly green outfit is a navy blue top and kelly green pencil skirt, as seen on the Marc Jacobs runway (via Fashionologie) and the styling used to advertise the Emerson Fry 2 Button Belt Skirt.

clicks of note: labor day and living with boys

get your week off to a colorful [relaxed] start...

LISTEN.
  • Fans of Mumford and Sons, the Avett Brothers, and Cory Chisel should check out Dawes.  This is "When My Time Comes."  I think the lyrics are well written and the harmonies on the chorus are just amazing.  The official video is worth a watch.

sunday simplicity #84 - orange crush

Yes, they are alive and can have those colors,
But I, in my soul, am alive too.
I feel I must sing and dance, to tell
Of this in a way, that knowing you may be drawn to me.

capturing the end of summer...

Chicken and waffles, y'all.  Chicken.  And.  Waffles.  I love living in
the South.

Also, do you miss the Olympics yet?  I miss my excitement over the
countdown sign at the grocery store.  Can we get a countdown to
the 2014 winter Olympics going in the soda aisle, please?

Summer without 4-H doesn't really exist in my world, and I'm glad
I had such a great experience as an adult volunteer at the camp
where I worked in college this summer.

I also enjoy summer vacation, immensely, and take every chance
I can get to eat lunch in a restaurant as I like to imagine "real
people" get to do all the time.

Back-to-school shopping.  This year's staples for me are primary colors,
prints, and sleeveless.  Add $3 Goodwill skirts and I am set for picture
day and beyond.

Goodbye for now, lazy days spent drinking coffee in bed and reading
books by my favorite painting, my favorite lamp, my favorite window.

Have you ever tried Throat Coat tea?  I learned about it when I was on
the committee that brought concerts to my university.  It was on
Rufus Wainwright's rider that we had to provide him with Throat
Coat tea and Burt's Bees lip balm.  My throat gets scratchy this time of
year when I go from barely speaking in the daytime to lecturing for
large chunks of time.

One more time at camp before the summer ends... we had a reunion
for staff members from the camp's whole history... it was great to
hear stories from the 70's, 80's, and 90's and to tell some of our own.
And, of course, to pretend to be Katniss on the archery range.
I also pretended to be Stephanie Plum on the indoor shooting range,
but thought a picture of me shooting a pistol might be a big scary.

What have your favorite summer memories been this year?

summer/fall color: neutral home decor

I love starfish and sand-inspired neutrals for home decor- not just in summer but all year round!

West Elm wooden ombre vases

Gold-toned neutral walls make a great backdrop for a fresh living room with pops of green - this room would look great in a any season of the year with a few different accents.  From Better Homes and Gardens.

West Elm Ikat window panel (love the wall art in this staged room, too!)

summer/fall color: starfish and mushroom - the now neutrals

Summer's most popular neutral was starfish, a light khaki tan that goes with everything, but looks especially awesome paired with gold and white.  For fall, I'm noticing a lot of mushroom, somewhere between gray and brown, which looks surprisingly great with black.
