Blogs are a place for documenting our lives, so we rarely write about the things we haven't done. When I saw this prompt on The Circle link-up, I knew I had to jump in and share my list! I've never...
- SWAM UNDERWATER.
I can't do the eyes-open, holding-my-breath thing. I've taken swim classes. It just doesn't happen for me. I will swim on top of the water, thank you very much.
- VISITED THE MIDWEST OR SOUTHWEST.
If not for my trip to Seattle, I wouldn't be able to say I'd been west of Tennessee! I also haven't been to Canada or Mexico, South America, a non-English speaking European country, Asia, Africa, or Australia. Or Antarctica, but I'm in no rush for that one!
- BEEN ON A CRUISE.
I got seasick on my one sailing experience; I'm not sure if I'd feel okay on a large ship or not - people say you can't even tell you're moving! I would love to try one of the cruises that has lots of fun things to do, like an all-inclusive resort, or a river cruise in Europe.
- SMOKED A CIGARETTE... OR ANYTHING ELSE.
When I was five, my grandpa passed away from lung cancer. I got the message. No cigarette, no hookah, and definitely no marijuana for me.
- GAMBLED.
A few family members have become addicted to various forms of gambling, so I've never even bet someone a dollar on anything. I just don't want to open that door. In college, my Christian fellowship did a "casino night" that was really fun - especially since there was nothing to actually lose!
- TRIED ANY WINTER SNOW SPORTS.
In college, my roomies took snowboarding, and it sounded really fun, but I was afraid I'd break something. Definitely not coordinated enough to try skiing. Which brings me to my next point...
- BROKEN A BONE.
I was a very careful, somewhat prissy child. When my neighbors built a treehouse, I stayed on the ground.
- GOTTEN A TATTOO.
After my father passed away, my mom and I considered getting tattoos together, but I just don't think I like any image or quote enough to get it on my body forever. If I did get a tattoo, it would probably be a feather in honor of my maiden name or the quote "Stay gold" from The Outsiders, which would remind me of my students.
- READ THESE CLASSIC BOOKS:
From the Modern Library's Top 20: Lolita, Brave New World, The Sound and the Fury, Catch-22, Darkness at Noon, Sons and Lovers, Under the Volcano, The Way of All Flesh, 1984, I Claudius, An American Tragedy, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Slaughterhouse Five, Native Son. As an English major and teacher, everyone expects me to have read most of these - nope!
- WATCHED THESE CLASSIC MOVIES:
From AMC's Top 20: Citizen Kane, Raging Bull, Lawrence of Arabia, City Lights, The Searchers, Psycho, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Sunset Boulevard, The General, On the Waterfront. No desire to see any of these except maybe 2001.
- WATCHED THESE POPULAR SHOWS:
From TV Guide's Top 25: The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men. I've also never seen West Wing, Friday Night Lights, Scandal, Orange is the New Black, Orphan Black, or Transparent, even though I've heard lots of good things about them and they seem to be really popular shows to stream.
- EATEN AT JACK IN THE BOX, WHITE CASTLE, OR P.F. CHANG'S.
We have a lot in common! I've never smoked, gambled, gotten a tattoo, been on a cruise, eaten at any of those restaurants/food chains, visited the Southwest or Midwest, broken a bone, AND have never read/seen those classics! And I also totally get the swimming underwater thing. Even though I have gone swimming underwater, I am not a fan of swimming to begin with, especially in open waters! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up! It was fun reading your list!
I can swim with my eyes open underwater and used to actually like doing it. But unfortunately with contacts I just don't do it anymore since I've lost a contact or two that way!
ReplyDeleteAnd actually, if you ever are up for trying snow sports, skiing is a lot easier to learn than snowboarding, especially if you have balance issues like me.
